Felix Maria Gatz - A Forgotten Bruckner Pioneer -- Updated Essay
Felix Maria Gatz
Felix Maria Gatz (1892-1942) was one of the early champions of Anton Bruckner's music. He gave more Bruckner performances in Germany than any of his contemporaries. He presented the first Bruckner symphony cycle in Berlin with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra. He hosted radio broadcasts introducing Bruckner's music to wider audiences and he was the founder of the Bruckner Concert Society in Germany.
So, why is it that no one knows about him?
I first heard about Felix Maria Gatz in 2011 and by 2016, I had written an essay about his life and work. After more research, I have fully revised my essay which tells the tragic story of a man who should be much better known by Brucknerians then he is today.
