The Bruckner Tour of Austria - August, 2018

The Bruckner Tour of Austria - August, 2018
I am happy to announce that the 2018 Bruckner Tour of Austria is officially on! The dates of the tour are August 11 - 21, 2018.

  • The tour is designed to allow people anywhere in the world to participate. You book your travel to be in Vienna on August 11th and the tour begins with a welcoming dinner at our Vienna hotel. In past years, we have enjoyed the company of people from the United States, Great Britain, Hong Kong, the Netherlands, Vietnam, Turkey, Greece, India, Norway and New Zealand.

  • As in past years, we will visit Bruckner-related sites in Vienna, Linz, St. Florian, Ansfelden, Steyer, Enns, Windhaag, Kronsdorf, Melk, Klosterneuberg and Krems. For this tour, we will add visits to Hoersching, Leonding and Bad Kreuzen.

  • By "following in Bruckner's footsteps," you will have an opportunity to see many of the famous sites of Austria but also the beautiful countryside that was such an inspiration to Bruckner in his formative years. This will include a relaxing river cruise on the Danube from Duernstein to Melk.

  • Today, Bruckner's birth house in Ansfelden has been transformed into a wonderful Bruckner Museum and the tour will take you to locations that would be very difficult to visit on your own. This will include a visit to Bruckner's sarcophagus in the crypt of St. Florian, a small Bruckner museum in Kronstorf and a rare opportunity to see Bruckner's actual manuscripts with visits to the Austrian National Library and Kremsmuenster Abbey where these priceless documents are stored.

  • The tour will also include three concerts from the 2018 BrucknerTage Festival at St. Florian - including performances of the Symphony No. 7 for two pianos and one (of course!) for full orchestra - performed in the Saint Florian Basilika.

The tour has been confirmed so for those of you who have already signed up, it is time to make your travel plans. This will be the FINAL Bruckner Tour. If you have not yet signed up, I hope you will join us.

Bruckner Tour Itinerary Update

We have made a small adjustment to the itinerary for the upcoming Bruckner tour. Given that we will be travelling in August, we are uncertain about how high the temperatures might be. When travelling into the more rural areas of upper Austria, most hotel accommodations do not offer air conditioning. This is the case when we stay in a guest house in St. Florian.

For this reason, we have decided to reduce our overnights in St. Florian from five nights to three nights. This will allow us to take full advantage of the two main concerts (piano and orchestral) and for most of the organ concert which can last well into the evening.

For the nights of August 14th and 15th, we will be staying at the Hotel Park inn in Linz. This is a modern hotel with air conditioning.

The tours for those two days will remain the same.

This will allow you more time for sightseeing on your own in Linz and will reduce some potential discomfort due to the lack of air-conditioning.

This follows the pattern that we followed on our first Bruckner Tour and it proved to be highly successful.

Looking forward to seeing you in August!

John
