Engel was born in Hungary but was brought to New York City as a child. "The Life of Anton Bruckner" was published by the Roerich Museum Press in New York in 1931. It was published in collaboration with the Bruckner Society of America and was also printed within the Society's journal, "Chord and Discord" (Volume 2, No. 1).
