June, 2026: Symphony No. 5 / Benjamin Zander / Philharmonia Orchestra / Telarc CD

The last Bruckner recording that Telarc made was the Symphony No. 5 conducted by Benjamin Zander, the music director of the Boston Philharmonic. Zander brought his deep knowledge of Bruckner's music to this recording and his thoughts are well expressed in the extensive liner notes that accompanied this release. In the end, Telarc gave us excellent recordings of the Symphonies Nos. 4-9. At the time of this posting, Maestro Zander has just announced his retirement from the Boston Philharmonic. There is one other Telarc recording. It is also of the Symphony No. 5, but in the edition edited by Franz Schalk. It is an interesting recording for that fact alone. It will be the download of the month for July - but, unfortunately, it comes with some political baggage.
