Franz Neuhofer / Anton Bruckner: Praeludium

Franz Neuhofer / Anton Bruckner: Praeludium
Franz Neuhofer was born in Freistadt (Upper Austria) in 1870. In 1885 Neuhofer met Bruckner when Neuhofer's aunt sang the solo part in Bruckner's Te Deum. The Praeludium is actually an expansion of Bruckner's Perg Prelude (WAB 129). It begins with Bruckner's composition but then Neuhoffer adds a middle section written using Bruckner's harmonics and then returns to the Bruckner work adding a more triumphant finale. Neuhofer died in Linz in 1949.

The work was first performed on June 16, 1922 at the unveiling of the Bruckner commemorative plaque on the Old Cathedral in Linz.
