Augustinus Kropfreiter: Improvisation on a Theme from Bruckner's Eighth Symphony
Augustinus Franz Kropfreiter was born in 1936 in Hargelsberg near Enns . He spent his school days at the Episcopal Gymnasium Petrinum. Immediately after his matriculation, he entered the Augustinian canons' monastery of St. Florian in 1953, where he was initially taught by Johann Krichbaum in musical theory. From 1955 to 1960 he studied composition and organ at the Linz Bruckner Conservatory and at the Vienna Musikhochschule. After completing his studies, he worked as an organist in St. Florian. Besides, he was also a teacher of the St. Florian Boys Choir. In 2003 he died in St. Florian at the age of 68.

The Austrian Radio recorded this improvisation which is based on a theme from Bruckner's Symphony No. 8.
