Glenn Gould and Bruckner??One would rarely link the artistry of legendary pianist Glenn Gould with the music of Bruckner, but a small piece of video has indeed made that connection. The video in question was produced by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation and shows the pianist in New York as he goes through the process of selecting a piano for an upcoming recital. At the very end of the 30 minute documentary (28'58" to be precise), as Gould is left to play on a piano in the basement of Steinway's New York showroom, he launches into a selection by Bruckner. It lasts just thirty seconds but it is an interesting discovery. My thanks to Takis Atsidakos in Greece for the link.
And for another performance of the Adagio from the Quintet (from 1959), this time with some opinions openly expressed, click here.
