The 2010 Brucknerathon: A Report

The 2010 Brucknerathon: A Report
The 2010 Brucknerathon was a great success. At least that was the report from the participants. Massimiliano Wax (from the Domenican Republic) and his wife, Patricia attended. William Carragan and Benjamin Korstvedt were on hand as well. The new BIS Bruckner 4th which uses Ben's 1888 edition was played and an aircheck of the upcoming Bruckner 9th CD with Gerd Schaller using Bill's latest edition of the Finale completion was also offered. We worked our way through all 11 symphonies starting at 8AM and ending at 11:30 PM. While most had breakfast provided at their hotels, we served breakfast, lunch and dinner and all forms of refreshments.

Events started the day before with a reception at my home that later moved to the Tunxis Grill Restaurant nearby.

The listening session took place at the home of Ken and Ruth Jacobson in Simsbury. Twenty people were in attendance - some coming from as far as Texas, California, the Dominican Republic and Pennsylvania.

Logo tee shirts and coffee mugs were for sale as well as a large collection of Bruckner LP recordings.

The playlist can be seen below.

One of the day's highlights was the presentation of the Bruckner Society of America's Julio Kilenyi Medal to both Bill Carragan and Ben Korstvedt for their scholarly contributions to the greater understanding and appreciations of Anton Bruckner's music. Both were presented with certificates and will receive the medal as soon as they come from the foundry. Additional medals have been produced and more presentations will be made in the future.
