Dr. Reiner Moritz's Bruckner documentary

Dr. Reiner Moritz's Bruckner documentary
Linzer Singakademie during the recording
In conjunction with the Bruckner Symphony video cycle being recorded by Valery Gergiev and the Munich Philharmonic, Dr. Reiner Moritz is busy recording documentary footage that will accompany the production. I had the good fortune of meeting Dr. Moritz during the recent Bruckner Tour of Austria and he traveled with the tour on one day and even recorded some of our activities.

Since then, he has been busy recording other events. Soon after we left, he recorded a performance in St. Valentin of Bruckner's lied dedicated to the Liedertafel Frohsinn. The Linzer Singakademie was conducted by Alexander Koller (a rehearsal can be seen on YouTube).

Additional interviews were recorded at St. Florian including a performance of Locus Iste.

This year, Valery Gergiev performed and recorded Bruckner's symphonies 2, 9 & 8 with Munich Philharmonic Orchestra. In addition, organist Martin Haselböck improvised on themes of No. 2 as Bruckner did at the world première.

More recently, Dr. Moritz has returned to Linz to record the following:
  • Interviews and demonstrations with Bernhard Prammer, organist of the Alte Dom.
  • Recording of Vaterlandslied and Finale Meistersinger at Brucknerhaus during the restaging of the 1868 concert Bruckner conducted with Liedertafel Frohsinn.
  • Recording of the 7 a cappella motets with Hard Chor and Alexander Koller.

The documentary and the symphony cycle are scheduled for release in 2020.
