Adolf Hitler at Regensburg - June 6, 1937
On June 6, 1937, a bust Anton Bruckner was placed in the Walhalla Shrine in Regensburg, Germany. Adolf Hitler was present at the ceremony since Bruckner was one of his favorite composers, and one with whom he shared an upper Austrian heritage. Joseph Goebbels used this occasion to present a speech which skillfully linked Bruckner's life and work to the National Socialist agenda of creating "German Art." This is an audio excerpt of part of that speech. An English translation of the speech is also available below.
