Rehearsal Photos, etc. (November 10-12, 2011)

I am in the Dominican Republic in order to attend the rehearsals and concert of the Bruckner 7th Symphony. It is the first time that a Bruckner Symphony has been played in this small Caribbean nation. I can assure you that it is no small undertaking. To augment the local musicians, players and instruments needed to be brought in from other countries and the logistics are daunting.

The concert will be presented in the historic Convento de los Dominicos. Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic was the first Spanish settlement in the New World and this convento dates back to the 16th century. It is a beautifal setting for the concert.

All the hard work in putting this concert together is going to pay off and we will all be able to hear a unique performance via compact disc and DVD video. The orchestra is conducted by Darwin Aquino and he has been working closely with Bruckner scholar, William Carragan to present a perfamance of the Gutmann edition with all the tempo indications and nuances. Just listening to the reheasals today makes me confident that this will be a memorable performance. More information will be posted in the coming days along with a gallery of photos.
