Day 6: St Florian, Enns, Kronstorf, Steyr and the BrucknerTage Concert

Day 6: St Florian, Enns, Kronstorf, Steyr and the BrucknerTage Concert
Our day began with a fascinating tour of the Augustinian Abbey in Saint Florian. Klaus Laczika, one of the directors of the BrucknerTage Festival, introduced us to Janez Ravnik, a cleric and a member of the monastic order, who took us through St. Florian. The tour included the imperial bedrooms, the Bruckner room, which contains furnishings from his Vienna apartments, the main halls, the library and the crypt where Bruckner's sarcophagus has been placed directly under the Bruckner Organ. We also enjoyed an organ recital where Christian Etlinger performed the music of Bach, Johann Krebs, Christian Etlinger, Bruckner and Charles-Marie Widor.

We were then off for a tour of the cities of Enns, Kronstorf, and Steyr. Soon after returning, we were off to the abbey and a dinner in the courtyard and the BrucknerTage orchestra concert where Dennis Russell Davies led the French Youth Orchestra in music by Berio / Schubert (Renderings) and Bruckner (Symphony in d Minor "Die Nullte").

From the sounds heard in our room, it appears that the orchestra members had a good time in town after the concert.
