August, 2011: Leighton Lucas and his Orchestra / Bruckner 9th
Leighton Lucas was born in London in 1903. His first career was as a dancer in Diaghilev's Ballet-russe Dance Troop and he continued throughout his compositional career to write music for the dance. His primary activity was as a film composer. After World War II, he formed his own orchestra which gave concerts and in 1947, Lucas produced a series of production music recordings of classical music for EMI. The recordings were designed for use in all forms of audio productions (movies, etc.) where the producer could pay for the discs (78's) and then use the music without royalties.

One of the selections that Lucas recorded included sections of Bruckner's Symphony No. 9. I have patched them together to make it as complete as possible. The recordings come from three sets of 78 rpm discs.
