June, 2020: Symphony No. 7: Gerd Albrecht / Czech Philharmonic Orchestra / Canyon CD

Gerd Albrecht (1935-2014) was a talented German conductor with a large discography of recordings. As Music Director, he recorded the Bruckner Symphonies 4-9 with the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra and the Symphony No. 4 once again with the Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra. Sadly, all of these recordings are now out-of-print. Canyon released Symphonies 4, 7, 8 and 9 with the Czech Philharmonic, but Albrecht's stormy tenure with the Orchestra ended in 1996 and the Canyon releases stopped. Exton Records later issued Symphonies 5 and 6 in the series, but they have now been deleted as well. The Yomiuri Nippon Orchestra recording was issued by the Orchestra as a promotional CD for renewing subscribers. It was never commercially released. The Symphony No. 7 offered here was recorded in the Rudolfinum (House of Artists) in Prague on April 24-26, 1995.
