Symphony No. 1 (Hynais edition of 1893)
Volkmar Andreae
Austrian State Symphony Orchestra

From Masterseal LP MW-40

Volkmar Andreae was one of the unsung champions of Bruckner's music. During the 1950's when Bruckner's music was not frequently played, Andreae recorded all nine of the numbered symphonies with the Vienna Symphony Orchestra and repeated most, if not all, with Tonhalle Orchestra of Zurich. This performance is interesting in that it employs the 1893 published edition of what is now referred to as the "Vienna Edition" and is different from the "Linz" edition which he recorded in 1953 as part of the symphony cycle with the Vienna Symphony. While the Orchestra is given a pseudonym, it is most likely the Vienna Symphony Orchestra or the Tonkuenstler Orchestra.
