Bruckner Archive acquires a 1940 Leipzig Brucknerfest Program book
The Bruckner Archive recently acquired through auction a rare copy of the 1940 program book for the "Zweites Leipziger Brucknerfest."

The significance of this 32 page program book is that it documents some very important performances that were captured by the Reichs Radio as "experimental recordings" (Versuchaufnahme) that were probably never broadcast, but ended up in the archives of the Deutsche Rundfunkarchiv (DRA). These include the discarded Trios to the Scherzo of the Symphony No. 9 as performed by the Max Strub Quartet and the Opening to the Ninth Symphony's Finale as performed by conductor, Hans Weisbach. Both were world premiere performances and recordings.

The program book informs us that both "Study performances" were preceded by introductory statements - The Trio by Dr. Erich Schwebsch and the Finale fragment by Hans Weisbach.
