Rob Peters: Variations on a Theme by Bruckner

Rob Peters: Variations on a Theme by Bruckner
I have received the following information from the composer:

I'm a professional composer, living in the Netherlands, with more than 200 compositions published at IMSLP.org. I've written many organ works, choral pieces, chamber music but also a number of works for piano solo. Among these is a recent work, "Variations on a Theme by Bruckner".

Bruckner has been kind of a "soulmate" for me as a composer, but direct inspiration hadn't occurred yet - till now, with this new work.

Variation works using themes by Bruckner are rare, so I decided to write one, based on the trombone theme from the first movement of Bruckner's 1st symphony (at the end of the exposition). This theme has always fascinated me because of its very modern sounding succession of intervals. It's one of my favorite Bruckner moments, always gives me the chills when I listen to the 1st.

The piece consists of 30 variations and a double fugue, written in a modern, yet still borderline tonal style, matching the tonal qualities of the theme. It's a fairly large-scale piece (20-25 minutes), which requires a solid technique, but I trust it's idomatically written, since I'm a pianist (and organist) myself.

I offer all my works as free downloads in .pdf format at IMSLP, and this one is no exception:
