The underlined headlines below will take you to the various sections of the website where the bullet points below are featured. Please use these as guides to the new information offered since the last newsletter.

The 2019 Brucknerathon is scheduled for September 6-8 in Windsor, Connecticut. Information on signing up is available here. For those who plan to sign up, please do so soon as plans need to be made regarding provisions. Also, a custom tee-shirt for participants is being offered, but orders must be received by August 16th.

I will be attending the 2019 BrucknerTage at St Florian between August 20 and 25. If you are attending as well, please make a point of seeking me out to say hello.

  • Jaap van Zweden, Music Director of the New York Philharmonic receives the Bruckner Society's Medal of Honor on May 27th.

THE BRUCKNER ARCHIVE

  • The Bruckner Archive recording database (with over 9,870 listings) has been updated and it is easy to download as an Excel file. Many of these recordings are available to collectors and researchers. Contact me for details on how you can fill in some holes in your collection.

  • Claus Peter Flor's recording of Bruckner's Symphony No. 9 with the Shanghai Philharmonic is available.

  • The Madison Summer Choir releases their 2018 performance of Bruckner's Mass No. 1.

  • High Definition Tape Transfers releases a mastering of Eugen Jochum's Bruckner First Symphony with the Berlin Philharmonic.

    JULY RELEASES

  • High Definition Tape Transfers releases a re-mastered edition of Zubin Mehta's Vienna Philharmonic Bruckner 9th.

  • Yves Saint Laurent offers a Bruckner 7th with Carl Schuricht conducting the Danish Radio Symphony Orchestra.

    JUNE ISSUES

  • The Berlin Philharmonic's 22 hybrid SACD set of Radio Recordings 1939-1945 including several Bruckner Symphonies.

  • Urania (Italy) releases Mravinsky's Soviet recordings of Bruckner's Symphonies 7 and 8.

  • Deutsche Grammophon releases Karajan's Bruckner cycle on CD and Blu-Ray audio. (July release in the US).

    MAY ISSUES

  • DGG releases the Symphonies Nos 6 and 9 in their ongoing Andris Nelsons / Gewandhaus cycle.

  • Orfeo releases a set of Rafael Kubelik's Bavarian Radio performances including two Bruckner Symphonies.

  • Valery Gergiev's cycle with the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra continues with releases of Symphonies 2, 8 and 9. But these are easier to order from Europe or Japan.

    JAPANESE RELEASES (IN STOCK ! or Available for special order)

  • NEW!Tower Records releases their exclusive SACD set of the Asahina / Fontec recordings of Symphonies 5,7,8, and 9.

  • Epitagraph releases the 1961 recording of Carl Schuricht conducting the Bruckner Symony No. 7 with the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande.

  • TOBU Recordings have released the Symphonies 7, 8 and 9 with Eduardo Chibas conducting the Venezuela Symphony Orchestra in a three CD boxed set.

  • Exton continues it release of Bruckner symphonies with Toshiyuki Kamioka and the New Japan Philharmonic. This new release features the Symphony No. 6 in the Josef Woess edition of 1927.

  • RCA's slow moving Paavo Jarvi Bruckner cycle with the Frankfurt Radio Symphony gets one step closer to completion with the release of the Symphony No. 3.

  • Tower Records continues their exclusive reissues with a hybrid SACD release of Supraphon's von Matacic recordings of Symphonies 5, 7 and 9.

  • King International releases Karajan's 1966 Bruckner 8th performed in Tokyo.


FUTURE RELEASES AND RECENT DISCOVERIES

  • Sony in Germany will be releasing a Bruckner Symphony No. 7 with Alan Gilbert conducting the NDR Elbephilharmonie.

  • C Major will be completing their video Bruckner cycle with Christian Thielemann and the Staatskapelle Dresden in the Bruckner Symphony No. 2.

  • Brilliant Classics will be releasing a CD of Bruckner's complete piano music. The pianist is Francesco Pasqualotto. It is slated for an August release.

  • An unusual recording was discovered on Ebay that was not known of before. It contains a performance of the Symphony No. 4 with Gerhard Markson conducting the Barratt Due Symphony Orchestra. The concert took place in Oslo in 2005. It is the August Download of the Month!
