Bruckner Collection

More than half a century of passion for Bruckner is contained in the collection that John F. Berky has now handed over to the Austrian Mediathek.

For John Berky, a pivotal moment occurred during his student days when he happened to hear a Bruckner recording as background music while studying: studying for his exams became impossible for the American at that moment, but a lifelong, profound fascination with the composer from Ansfelden was ignited. His professional career took Berky to leading positions at several American radio stations, but alongside this, he maintained a continuous engagement with Bruckner. He was instrumental in the revival of the Anton Bruckner Society and is the driving force behind the immensely informative website www.abruckner.com . His knowledge, accumulated over more than half a century, is also reflected in his meticulously curated collection of recordings of Bruckner's works, which he has now donated to the Austrian Mediathek. Nearly 2,000 CDs, DVDs, records, and other media document both Berky's passion and his structured approach to it.

The media library is delighted to acquire one of the world's most complete collections of Bruckner recordings. However, processing this impressive collection will take some time…
