On January 16th, before a large and appreciative audience, Dallas Symphony Orchestra Music Director, Fabio Luisi received the Bruckner Society of America's coveted Julio Kilenyi Medal of Honor. The medal was created in 1931 by the Hungarian Sculptor, Julio Kilenyi for the newly established Bruckner Society of America. The first medal was given to Arturo Toscanini who was then performing Bruckner's 4th and 7th Symphonies with the Symphony Society of New York. Over the course of the next 95 years, less than eighty awards have been given.
Maestro Kilenyi was presented with the medal by Bruckner Society of America board members, Charles Benson and Eric Lai.
