January 19th: The Symphony No. 1

January 19th: The Symphony No. 1
The concert cycle opened with Barenboim performing Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 27 with the Bruckner Symphony No. 1. The longer, more mature of Mozart's concertos was a good balance with what is Bruckner's shortest numbered symphony. The performance of the symphony was spirited and and it was easy to hear the inner details thanks to the orchestra's transparent playing. Barenboim chose the revised "Linz" version of the symphony.
