Thanks to my colleague Gilles Houle, I have discovered a Doctoral Dissertation by Mary Hetzel that translates some of Bruckner's correspondence into English. The 337 page dissertation is available for download. While much of her own writing about Bruckner falls into some of the old theories, the translations are interesting.

Hetzel's claim that Bruckner suffered from Aspergers is thought-provoking, but there is no clinical data that supports this and the practice of attaching ailments to long-dead personalities is a risky business.
