Buyer Beware - Suspicious downloadA colleague in Italy directed me to a very tantilizing Russian site with downloads of performances of Bruckner's Symphonies 4, 8, and 9 conducted by the Hidemaro Kanoye (1898-1973). Kanoye was an enterprising Japanese conductor who made the first recording of Mahler's Symphony No. 4. He also performed the Bruckner 4th in Tokyo back in 1931. The Russiam website offers recordings by the Concertgebouw Orchestra (4 & 8) and the Osaka Philharmonic (9) - all from the 1970s. Research has determined that no such performances took place.
