Day Seven

Today involved a good deal of travelling as we ended up just a few kilometers from the Czech border.

We started in Ansfelden and visited the Anton Bruckner Museum in the Bruckner Geburthaus. Next we went to the Village of Hoershing, where Bruckner received some of his early musical instruction.

As we headed north, we stopped at the Weinberg Brewery/Restaurant in Kefermarkt for a hearty meal. In Kefermarkt, there is an amazing wood carved altar that goes back to the Middle Ages that has become a famous landmark. Our bus stopped there for a guided tour.

Finally we stopped in the small village of Windhaag where Bruckner had his first, and not very pleasant, experience in his early career as a teacher. We visited the parish church, the schoolhouse and the house where he lived.

In the evening, we attended the final concert of the BrucknerTage Festival with Remy Ballot conducting the Altomonte Orchestra in the music of Debussy and the Ninth Symphony of Bruckner.
