Day 8: Cesky Krumlov - Czech Republic

Day 8: Cesky Krumlov - Czech Republic
Today was the first of two days that were assigned to general sightseeing and did not continue the Brucknerian theme. Due to Linz's proximity to the Czech Republic, we boarded a bus and went to the City of Cesky Krumlov.

The town, nestled along a meandering curve in the Vltava River was mentioned in Latin texts as early as 1253. The town grew on both sides of the river and after the Czech Republic's separation from the Soviet Union, the old buildings were quickly spruced up and the quaint village, with its towering castle, became a favorite tourist attraction.

Our tour guides suggested a great location for a group luncheon and one even helped find a bakery so that we could purchase a cake and celebrate the 45th wedding anniversary of two of our tour participants.

We returned to Linz for the evening.
