October, 2012: Franz Schalk conducts the Vienna Philharmonic
Franz Schalk (1863-1931) was the conductor of the Vienna State Opera from 1918 until 1929. This also made him the Music Director of the Vienna Philharmonic. However, earlier in his career, he was a devoted pupil of Anton Bruckner and collaborated with the composer in the promotion of his compositions and the preparation of his publications.

While Schalk conducted many Bruckner performances, they were never recorded. What we do have is a series of works by Beethoven including this 1928 recording of Beethoven's Symphony No. 6.
