May, 2025: Symphony No. 7 / Katharina Wincor / UNAM Philharmonic Orchestra (Central Cultural University, Mexico City)
Katharina Wincor
Symphony No.7 in E major, WAB 107
-Katharina Wincor
-Orquesta Filarmónica de la UNAM (OFUNAM), Mexico City.
-Recorded 21 April 2024 in the Sala Nezahualcóyotl in Mexico City.

The Sala Nezahualcóyotl is one of the truly great concert halls of North America. Its construction and design emulate the Philharmonie Berlin and the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, and shares an acoustic excellence with them and other world-class concert halls.

For the 200th anniversary of the birth of Anton Bruckner, OFUNAM performed his Symphony No. 7, a work that marked a turning point in the reception of his music.

This performance with the Orquesta Filharmónica de la UNAM is particularly significant since it was directed by the Austrian conductor Katharina Wincor. Ms. Wincor is the newly appointed Music Director of the Altomonte-Orchestra St Florian, Austria, succeeding Rémy Ballot. She will make her debut in her new position in August 2025 at the Brucknertage Summer Music Festival in Austria leading a performance of Bruckner's Symphony No. 6.

My thanks to Brucker Society of America board member, John Proffitt and Francis Polomares at OFUNAM for making this recording available.
