June, 2024: Symphony N0. 4 : Horst Stein / Bamberg Symphjony Orchestra / Eurodisc

Horst Stein (1926-2008) held principal conducting positions with the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra, l'Orchestre de la Suisse Romande in Geneva, the Basel Symphony Orchestra and the NHK Symphony Orchestra in Tokyo. He was especially associated with the music of the late romantic period and specialized in the music of Max Reger and, to a lesser degree - Anton Bruckner. For London / Decca Records, he recorded the Bruckner Symphonies Nos. 2 and 6 with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. This performance of the Symphony No. 4 - recorded in October of 1987 for the now defunct Eurodisc label - is understandably less well known.
