Symphony No. 7 in E Major

Symphony No. 7 in E Major
There is only one version of the Symphony No. 7, but there are differences between the editions prepared by Robert Haas and Leopold Nowak. The primary difference is the inclusion of the cymbals in the Adagio in the Nowak edition.

  1. Note 1: The cymbal crash, triangle roll, and tympani.
  2. Note 2: Delays the onset of the pizzicato strings at the end of the Adagio for one measure (waiting for the horns to finish their melody, as in Haas.)
  3. Note 3: Pure Nowak.
  4. Note 4: Mixture of Haas and Nowak.
  5. Note 5: Omits cymbal crash and triangle roll but keeps the tympani part at the same place.
  6. Note 6: Just before rehearsal letter A (m. 24) and just before the second statement of the main theme, there is a note in the horn part from the original printed (Gutmann) score and Redlich's edition.
  7. Note 7: At rehearsal letter D (m. 103) one of the horns plays a few notes from the 1885 edition or Nowak.
  8. Note 8: Rehearsal letter E (m. 123-130). A horn accompanies the strings at first (Haas). A few seconds later when the trombones and tuba come in, they enter a few measures sooner (from Haas).
  9. Note 9: Shortly after rehearsal letter G (mm. 148-149), only one trumpet is playing at this point (from Haas). In 1885/Nowak, the trumpet is accompanied by a note held by the woodwinds. (Wand, in his NDRSO recording, has the horns hold this note.)
