March, 2024: The ElectroMusik Recording of the Andante to Bruckner's Symphony No. 4
I have been looking for this recording for many years and I recently spent a good deal of money to purchase a digital file of this elusive recording. The money to pay for these acquisitions that I share with you come from funds received in my webstore (hint).

More information about this recording can be found here in the Articles and Essays section of this website.

Several people have helped my with this project, most notably my colleagues Lani Spahr, who did the sound restoration and Jörg Wyrschowy at the Deutsche Rundfunk Archive who found information about the label.

There are a few files below. There is a raw audio file of the first disk as it was received. There is a restored audio file of the entire Andante prepared by Lani Spahr and then there is a recording of the same movement performed by Adolph Mennerich (1902-1966) and the Reichssenders Orchestra Stuttgart just a few months after the ElecroMusik recording was made. It was probably recorded at the same venue using many of the same orchestra members!

As for the ElectroMusik recording, based on the sequence of matrix numbers, we really cannot be sure if the other three movements were recorded. It just seems very unusual that this recording has remained unknown for so long.
