Historic Recording of the Year: Symphonies 2-9 / Hand Rosbaud / SWR Symphony Orchestra / SWR Music
These recordings are valuable as documents of a tradition of Bruckner performance from the 1950s. More importantly, they are musically compelling in a way that is not common today. Maestro Rosbaud’s clear-headed and insightful presentation of Bruckner’s musical forms and textures speaks as directly today as it did in his time. In addition, the orchestral performances and the recorded sound remain impressive in conveying the strength of these interpretations. All in all, we find this to be a set of recordings of the distinctive quality that provide a living representation of important tradition of Bruckner performance.
Only one or two of these recordings have appeared on the market. Therefore, this new release is a most valuable addition to the discography that offers an opportunity for discovery by interested Bruckner lovers. We hope it finds many listeners.
