CD Box Set: Symphonies 0-9: Dino Sequi & Gerhard Hofer / Piano Four-Hands / Abruckner.com exclusive!
This unique cycle of symphonies has been in the works since 2008 when the pianists, Dino Sequi and Gerhard Hofer began to perform Bruckner's symphonies at the Old Cathedral in Linz. The concerts took place almost every year on September 4th (Bruckner's birthday). The cycle concluded in 2019 with a performance of a recently discovered transcription of the early Symphony in D Minor (Die Nullte).
I do not do this often, but I urge you to buy this set(unless you have been purchasing the individual releases each year). Here are the reasons:
These performances mirror the way in which most people in the 19th century got to know Bruckner's symphonies. There were no phonographs and orchestral performances were extremely rare.
There is little chance that another cycle for piano four-hands will ever show up in the near future. Even if a recording company chose to undertake a transcription cycle, they would opt for the two piano transcriptions. This is unique.
A purchase helps support this site.
Each set comes in a sturdy plastic box with notes on the performers. Notes on the symphonies can be downloaded here.
