After his complete Bruckner cycle with the Cologne Radio Symphony Orchestra, Guenter Wand finally received some overdue recognition for his Bruckner interpretations. He subsequently recorded a semi-complete (3-9) cycle with the NDR Symphony Orchestra and Symphonies 4, 5, 7, 8, and 9 with the Berlin Philharmonic. His death in 2002 at the age of 90 occured before his planned BPO recording of the Symphony No. 6. With this release, Profil has provided another chapter in Wand's extraodinary legacy of recordings. Here he is conducting the Munich Philharmonic, an orchestra that has a long Bruckner tradition (von Hausegger, Kabasta, Jochum, Kempe, Celebidache, Thielemann) and with it, he gives us his last thoughts on the Symphony No. 6.
