It has been announced that Gerd Schaller will be performing the Bruckner Symphony No. 8 next year at the Ebrach Music-Summer Festival in Germany. His fruitful collaboration with William Carragan continues in that the 1888 variant of the symphony will be performed. This contains many passages not heard in other versions including some wonderful horn scoring in the “intermediate adagio.” The adagio score, originally prepared by Dermot Gault and Takanubo Kawasaki was first performed in Japan and recorded by Akira Naito for the Japanese Delta label. Prof. Carragan’s edition makes use of manuscripts Mus.Hss. 6083, 6084, 6041, 34614/1, 19480/4 and 40999 housed at the Austrian National Library.
