Here are some interesting new items on the website.
Bruckner Society News This past weekend, The Bruckner Society of America sponsored a special commemorative concert by Orchestra Iowa in which Timothy Hankewich conducted the Bruckner Symphony No. 5 in Cedar Rapids and Iowa City. The concert was given to honor the work of the Society’s past president Charles Eble who served in that capacity from 1960 until his death in 2009. More information.
Over the weekend the Board of Directors met via telephone. President David Hempel stepped down after serving for two years and Benjamin Korstvedt assumed the position of Society President.
Last week, board member Neil Schore presented a Bruckner Society Medal of Honor to conductor Herbert Blomstedt after a performance of the Bruckner Symphony No. 5 with the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra. More information.
Finally, while in Iowa City for the concerts, a small cache of old Bruckner Society publications were discovered and they will soon be offered for sale on this website. Purchasers will also receive a one year membership in the Society.
One of the items discovered was new to us. It is a biography of Gustav Mahler published by Gabriel Engel for the Society in 1932. It is now available on this website along with other Bruckner Society publications.
