Editor's Section
This is the area of the website where I have the most latitude and where I can explain some of the decisions that must be made when taking on a project such as this discography. The major topics are listed to the left.

I have written a brief introduction to Anton Bruckner which provides some explanation as to reason there are so many differing versions of his symphonies.

While not wanting to get drawn into the interpretational merits or demerits of Bruckner performances, I felt that it was fair game to point out some of the bungled CD productions that have come my way. They can be seen in my "Discographic Horrors" section.

In the Links and Listings section, I attempt to provide you with some other interesting places to find information.

The Articles and Essays section contains many articles embedded in the discography including articles on:

1) Pseudonyms, an essay on some of the performers that are not properly credited on recordings and in particular the capers of producer/conductor, Alfred Scholz.

2) Alfred Scholz has given us several Bruckner performances, usually with incorrect information regarding the conductor. With the Symphony # 9, he went one better by releasing a flawed recording which, due to the lack of provenance, has never been corrected.

3) Hans Swarowsky was a gifted instructor of conducting and a conductor in his own right. Alfred Scholz, one of his pupils, liked to pin his name on lots of recordings he didn't do. The "Swarowsky Bruckner" list attempts to give you some actual performances conducted by Swarowsky.

Wanted recordings is just that - a list of recordings I am attempting to locate. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

The member area is a private access area for people who have been active in providing information and recordings to me.
