March, 2011: Symphony No. 9 (Adagio) / van Beinum / Concertgebouw / Radio Nederland Transcription
For many years, Radio Nederland, the foreign broadcast service of the combined Netherlands radio stations, offered a series of transcription discs to foreign broadcasters. One such series was entitled "A van Beinum Jubilee" and was released in 1957 to celebrate the conductor's 25 years with the Concertgebouw Orchestra. The 4 10 inch LP set contained the Adagio from Bruckner's Symphony No. 9 in a performance believed to be from the Jubilee Concerts in October, 1956. That transcription is our featured download this month.
